How do you sleep correctly?

By lying perfectly horizontal

A horizontal spine: During the day, our intervertebral discs lose a lot of moisture through vertical pressure. By keeping our spinal column in the most perfect horizontal position during the night, we facilitate the supply of fluids and speed up recovery.

By lying perfectly straight

A straight spine: This avoids pressure on the intervertebral discs and prevents damage and wear.

What should we do?

Measure!

Physiognomy and sleeping habits have a great influence on our sleep. It soon became clear that the perfect mattress should be adjustable in three zones: Hips, waist and shoulders. The researchers therefore first defined the decisive parameters: weight, height, but also age, gender, sleeping position, width of hips, waist and shoulders and the soil used.

The YUNO mattress is developed together with Custom8, a spin-off from KU Leuven, Belgium. Employees of the department biomechanics developed the measurement system and the composition of the YUNO mattress. Here, they combined fixed zones – the three crescents – with an interchangeable, customisable inlay consisting of three individual pads. In the shoulder area, they made additional incisions to create even more space. Finally, they also developed the algorithm, which links measurement and result.

“Lift the hips, lower the shoulders”

This is the only way to lie perfectly horizontally. In all other mattresses, the hips are kept low and the shoulders are lifted.

Some examples

Correct: Straight and horizontal

Wrong: Slanted and curved

The parameters

Gender

It is obvious. Men and women have different physiques. This translates into a different structure for their mattresses.

Weight

Your weight is not only one of the parameters for determining your BMI. In combination with your height and build, your weight determines how deeply different parts of your body will sink into your mattress.

Length

In combination with your weight and build, your height also determines how deeply the different parts of your body sink into your mattress. Moreover, your height also determines where we should apply the different zones in your mattress.

Age

We don't need to tell you that your body also changes with age. So your age also translates into a different composition of your mattress.

Width (shoulders, waist, hips)

Especially crucial for side sleepers. The width of your shoulders, waist and hips determine the density ratio of the pads to keep the spine straight and level.

Favourite sleeping position (side, back or stomach)

In order to achieve a correct sleeping position, a side sleeper needs different support from a front or back sleeper. So it is important to know.

3 steps to a correct sleep profile

1. Measuring your sleep profile

2. Entering data

3. Correct sleeping position
