You do not need a special spray if you want to tackle house dust mites, says Liesbeth of Het Poetsbureau.
Eucalyptus, peppermint, wintergreen or tea tree will kill house dust mites. Add a few drops of its essential oil to the wash. You can also use this oil to make mattresses, carpets and upholstered furniture mite-free.

How do you proceed?
- Add a few drops of its essential oil to the wash. You can also use this oil to make mattresses, carpets and upholstered furniture mite-free.
- Put fifty grams of baking soda in a jar with a lid and add ten drops of essential oil of tea tree, eucalyptus, peppermint, wintergreen, lavender, clove or rosemary. You can also combine the different types. Put some of the mixture in a sieve and sprinkle it on the mattress, carpet or furniture and leave it for at least an hour. Then vacuum the baking soda off.
- To keep mites under control in between, you can fill a plant sprayer with boiled water and a few drops of essential oil. Spray some on the mattress each time you change the sheets and allow to dry thoroughly before making the bed again.
